Tilapia cultivation output and export volume both accounted for one ninth of China's and one third of Guangdong's.Maoming has become the largest tilapia breeding area and export processing base in China.
At the same time, "Maoming Tilapia" has been successively rated as "The Most Influential Regional Public Brand of Aquatic Products in 2016", "The Most Influential Regional Public Brand of Fishery in Guangdong Province in 2018", and "The Most Influential Brand Award" in 2019.
After years of exploration and efforts, the tilapia processing industry has developed rapidly in Maoming city, occupying the commanding heights in western Guangdong.At present, there are 18 registered tilapia processing enterprises in the city, with an annual processing and export capacity of nearly 400,000 tons, which are exported to more than 20 countries and regions including the United States, Russia and Canada through frozen fish or sliced slices.In 2018, the city exported 109,400 tons of tilapia with a cargo value of 336 million dollars, up 43.7% and 45.34% respectively compared with the same period last year. The export volume of tilapia ranked the first in China for three consecutive years, accounting for 1/3 of the whole province.The use of fish skin, fish scales as raw materials to produce high-quality gelatin and collagen products, and the use of tilapia scraps fish meal production best-selling at home and abroad.
